Diwali Meaning

Diwali also known as deepawali is an event of light and colours. The word deepawali is a Sanskrit word which means ‘row of light’.

It is a festival which symbolizes victory of light over dullness, virtuous over sinful, knowledge over ignorance. Diwali means different for different people.

Some celebrate it to mark the arrival of king Ram to his kingdom Ayodhya after being in a state of banishment for 14 years; it also symbolizes the success of morality over evil as king Ram defeated Ravana, an evil demon king while some celebrated it to mark the success of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura.

Diwali is also the day when Lord Vishnu disguised as Vaman killed king Bali who was a demon, for greater good.

Diwali is the time when harvesting of crops is done which brings prosperity; this is also one of the reason for celebration.

Diwali has now become an international festival whose main aim is to strengthen the inner light which will protect us from spiritual darkness.
